Therapeutic Style and Specialties:

Megan KapplerIt is my belief that people make lasting changes on a deep personal level when we are able to explore our strengths and our creativity in addition to our problems and concerns. To do this, we need a safe space in which we feel comfortable and empowered to begin that exploration. It is my role and responsibility as a mental health counselor to provide that space for you. We may use drama, art, poetry music and other creative therapies in our work together, or we may simply talk. Often our work together, or we may simply talk. Often our work will be a combination of both.

I work with adults (individually and as couples), adolescents and families. Together, we will develop a treatment plan and set goals that are specific to your situation. We may work with community resources if necessary to help you achieve your goals for healing and growth, and to give you the confidence to face future challenges knowing that you are not alone. It is my intention that we will move through the counseling therapy process together in a respectful, positive way.

Explanation regarding licensure:
Prior to receiving licensure in the field of Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy, professionals are required to work under the supervision of an approved supervisor for a period of 2 – 3 years, depending on the individual’s degree. Having received the training and education necessary to work with clients therapeutically, unlicensed counselors are monitored to ensure ethical decisions are being made in regards to intervention methods. These counselors also have the opportunity to speak with their supervisor about clinical challenges they are experiencing. As you are seeking support, feel free to request further information from a counselor who you are aware is under supervision and/or working toward licensure. Once licensed, a therapist must abide by State Law regarding ethical behavior and ongoing training. Oversight is provided by the Department of Licensing.
