Therapeutic Style and Specialties:

Deborah Carnett I view the therapy process as a partnership; my role is to support and guide my clients, creating a nurturing environment where they can safely explore their thoughts and feelings working to change patterns that get in the way the joy and peace they seek in their lives. I employ various strategies but rely heavily on Cognitive Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and mindfulness based approaches. I have specialized training in working with trauma victims to address issues related to sexual abuse, domestic violence and trauma. I also use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) to help clients who have experienced traumatic events – including sexual abuse, domestic violence and other trauma.

Although I see clients for issues related to depression, grief and loss, and relationship difficultie's, I specialize in two general areas: Anxiety Disorders including PTSD, panic disorder, generalized anxiety and OCD.

My secondary specialty is working with children, youth and adults who have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. We address issues related to social skills, anxiety, anger and work or school challenges. My practice frequently involves working with those who may also have ADHD or a Learning Disability.
