Therapeutic Style and Specialties:

Amy Bloom I have over ten years of experience working in my specialty which is dual-diagnosis and addictions. I am the only CSAT/CMAT (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist - Certified Multiple Addictions Therapist) candidate in the South Sound area. Although I have worked with many other psychiatric disorders I chose to get more training in addictions because many times I find clients trying to "self-medicate" with drugs, alcohol, food and sex. I work in a task centered approach for several of these problems because I know it works. I am trained in psycho-dynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies which are easily and sometimes necessary to include in a task centered approach. I have a lot of knowledge around psychotropic medications due to working very closely with psychiatrists in a private practice as well as in hospital settings. I have co-facilitated interventions and have been trained in clinical debriefing. Before moving to Olympia (2 years ago) I had a multi-specialty practice in Santa Fe, New Mexico. i worked with other mental health clinicians and we had a detox for people coming off of pills (High Desert Detox) and facilitated groups for court adjudicated DUI clients and private practice. I am still working with some of my clients from Santa Fe via skype. I also worked as an expert witness as a crisis counselor for attorneys. My experience is varied and I believe the most important part of any of the areas I work in is the therapeutic relationship. I feel very lucky because I believe my job is a privilege. I get to know very interesting people from all walks of life and they invite me to help them with critical issues going on in their lives.
